about

Picture this: you wander through a dark, foreboding forest. It's getting dark, and a storm is fast approaching. You have no idea where you are. Then, up ahead, the tangle of trees give way to a quiet grove. And in this grove sits an old cottage, smoke drifting from its chimney, orange firelight illuminating the windows. You hear laughter and conversation. The front door opens, and you are invited in. Inside, you are offered hot tea, food, and a chair at a large table, inhabited by strangers who welcome you with friendly smiles. You know you are safe here. A shelter from the storm.

This image plays in Bran's mind as a metaphor for life: we stumble in a cacophony of life, lost and scared. But there's always a respite, a refuge from the storm. Whether it be good friends, family, a spiritual group, whatever form it takes, there is a community willing to help you.

This song started out as a poem in 2010 and was promptly tucked away. After rediscovering this poem, Bran played with it and turned it into a song. A few years would pass before Bran put it in recording, but it was been a favorite in his live performances.
