Crown of Kindling

by Barefoot Bran

/

about

Crown of Kindling is a song about the coming of autumn. When the leaves turn from green to brown and red. Inspired by Albert Camus's famous quote "Autumn is a second spring when every leaf is a flower", Bran turns the leaves on the trees into flowers as the Green Man begins to crumble underfoot and witches take flight.

lyrics

Flowers as brown as the robin's nest
Rain down from the maple and the oak
turns cold and beings to rest
Autumn comes swift, don't you know

Flowers as orange as the waning sun
Rain down from the branches over our heads
turn to the waning the sun
Lay down now in your leafy bed

(chorus)
The witches will fly
And the leaves will too
Autumn is coming
It'll be here soon
Keep the fires blazing bright
As we welcome in the approaching night

The Green Man now turns to a brown
That matches the ground underneath
The sky he'll lay down
And crumble undernearth our feet

The Green man now turns auburn red
His crown now a ring of kindling
The fire in our heads
Teach us the song that we will sing

chorus
